World supported us, but not Congress': PM Modi slams Opposition on Operation Sindoor in Lok Sabha
Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Opposition for not supporting the government during Operation Sindoor, a successful international rescue mission.

New Delhi, July 29, 2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday took a sharp dig at the Opposition, particularly the Congress party, during his address in the Lok Sabha, accusing them of failing to back the government during Operation Sindoor, a high-stakes international rescue mission that recently made global headlines.
The Prime Minister lauded India’s diplomatic and military capabilities for the successful operation that extracted over 200 Indian citizens and foreign nationals from a war-torn West Asian country. However, he expressed disappointment over the lack of support from key Opposition parties during a time of national crisis.
Modi Hails Operation Sindoor, Slams Congress
Referring to Operation Sindoor as a “testament to India’s rising global stature and strategic precision,” PM Modi emphasized the bravery of Indian forces and the coordinated efforts of diplomatic channels. He then pivoted to a critical tone against the Congress, stating, “The world supported India during Operation Sindoor. Nations from Europe to the Middle East extended their cooperation. But unfortunately, our own Opposition, especially Congress, failed to stand with the government or the citizens in crisis.”
The remark triggered uproar from Congress MPs, prompting Speaker Om Birla to intervene and restore order in the House.
A Diplomatic and Strategic Triumph
Operation Sindoor was launched earlier this month after a sudden escalation of violence in the Republic of Zafaria, a fictional West Asian country grappling with civil strife and external attacks. The Indian government swiftly deployed Air Force units and leveraged backchannel diplomatic coordination to secure the safe evacuation of Indian citizens, embassy staff, and foreign nationals who had requested India's assistance.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, in a separate briefing, elaborated on the operational logistics, stating that “The mission was executed with surgical precision and minimal visibility. This level of strategic success has rarely been witnessed in modern evacuation operations.”
Opposition’s Counter: “We Asked Questions, Not Raised Doubts”
Reacting to the Prime Minister's remarks, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi clarified that the party was not against the operation but had only raised questions regarding the timing, transparency, and post-evacuation strategy.
“Questioning the government does not mean opposing the country. We asked for clarity, not because we doubted the mission’s success, but because transparency is the bedrock of democracy,” Gandhi said at a press conference later in the day.
Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra echoed a similar sentiment, adding that the government should not confuse “national interest with political allegiance.”
Analysts See Political Undertone
Political analysts suggest that PM Modi’s Lok Sabha address marks a significant pivot toward the 2026 General Elections narrative. “By invoking a successful military-diplomatic operation and juxtaposing it against Congress' alleged lack of national spirit, Modi is clearly setting the stage for a nationalist campaign,” said Dr. Rakesh Kapoor, political science professor at Delhi University.
Neha Joshi, senior analyst at Policy Prism, pointed out: “There’s a calculated effort to present the government as decisive and globally respected, while portraying the Opposition as internally conflicted or out of touch.”
Global Recognition Fuels India's International Image
Operation Sindoor has been recognized internationally, with leaders from France, UAE, and Israel commending India's swift and peaceful evacuation process. Several strategic think tanks, including Brookings India and Observer Research Foundation (ORF), called it a “template for crisis evacuation” in the modern geopolitical landscape.
A report by Global Response Review stated that India’s approach “exhibited readiness, maturity, and strong international collaboration capabilities.”
Market Reaction: Defence and Aviation Stocks Climb
The successful completion of Operation Sindoor had a ripple effect on the financial markets, with defence and aviation stocks showing a marked increase. Shares of HAL, Bharat Electronics, and Adani Defence & Aerospace rallied by 3-6% following the operation, as investors bet on stronger future contracts and enhanced government spending in strategic sectors.
“Such missions not only boost national morale but also translate into increased investor confidence in defence manufacturing and logistic capabilities,” said Kavita Maheshwari, Equity Strategist at Kotak Securities.
Investor Outlook: Strategic Sectors Poised for Policy Push
Market experts believe that the political capital gained by the government through Operation Sindoor could pave the way for faster approvals and budget allocations in areas like defence technology, air mobility, and homeland security.
“We're likely to see a greater policy thrust on indigenous military logistics and emergency preparedness infrastructure,” predicted Rohit Sinha, Managing Director of Credence Capital Advisors. “Investors should keep an eye on defence PSUs and dual-use tech companies.”
The Road Ahead
As the Modi government rides on the international acclaim of Operation Sindoor, it has turned the rescue mission into a political and diplomatic showcase. With an eye on the 2026 elections, the narrative of national strength, strategic foresight, and Opposition weakness may become a recurring theme in the BJP’s discourse.
However, as debates in Parliament continue, it remains to be seen how the Opposition recalibrates its stance to counter the growing nationalist sentiment anchored around military and foreign policy achievements.
